Learning and Leading With Technology Let's face it--education is not how it was when we were in school. For those of us who have become educators, we have had to change our mindset from what we learned when we were children and teens, to what we began to teach, and now to teaching in the 21st century. While it takes a little while to familiarize ourselves and to get into the routine of using technology regularly, it will actually make our lives easier in the long run. When our students can work on assignments electronically, they can complete them from school and from home. The same is true for our marking! When our students submit their work electronically, we can assess their assignments right from our own computers. This cuts down on the tremendous amount of paper that we use in our schools. We are living in a world of technology, but also within a world of conservation. Think of all the paper we can save when we can eventually do everything we need to do on an electronic device! Wouldn't it be great if we didn't have to use paper at all for assignments?! Teaching with technology also allows us to reach all learners within our classroom. We can teach to the lowest low and also to the highest high. There are many types of assistive technology to support students with learning needs. Gifted learners and high achievers can also extend their learning. When we use technology on a regular basis, we are encouraging all of our students to think outside the box. We are encouraging communication and collaboration. There are so many advantages to using technology, we really can't argue against it. Now if we teachers can just step out of our comfort zone...... This website was designed to help teach you some of the basics of using technology in your classroom. There may be some things you already know, but it is my hope that it will be helpful in teaching you things that you didn't know already. Enjoy!
